The 2022 Essential Guide to Howl-O-Scream at SeaWorld Orlando

Howl-O-Scream is back for it’s second year here at SeaWorld Orlando. So if you’re heading to SeaWorld to check out this year’s event, I’ll go over all of the scare zones, and go over every one of the houses to help you plan your night.

Howl-O-Scream is Orlando’s newest Halloween event that is running now until October 31st at SeaWorld Orlando.

The price for Howl-o-Scream starts at $104.99, but they are offering several deals currently where you can get tickets for as low as $44.99 for a single night.

This year, Howl-o-Scream is featuring 5 haunted houses, 7 scare zones, and 3 live shows, as well as roaming hoards that roam around freely throughout the park.

This gives us 1 additional house, 1 additional show, and 3 more scare zones than last year making this a bigger and more exciting event than their inaugural year last year.

We visited on opening night which was Friday, September 16th, and got there about an hour before the event started. Since we only had tickets for one night, we wanted to make sure to squeeze in as much as possible to give you the whole rundown of this year’s Howl-o-Scream.

This year features 5 haunted houses that are spread throughout the park

I'll go through the story behind each one, to help you get the feel for them as you go through. The first one that you’ll come across as you enter the event is the Siren of the Seas which is a new house for 2022.

In this house, you’ll step into a pleasure cruise where there is nothing but terror on the itinerary. While you’re here, you’ll walk through crumbling gangways, decaying staterooms, and a plethora of restless souls hiding in every corner and dark alleyway.

If you make it back to port alive, the next house that you’ll encounter is Beneath the Ice.

Beneath the Ice is a returning house from last year. Here, you’ll walk through a base camp that has been entombed in snow. Whether you meet survivors or something else… you’ll wish you wouldn’t have! And, you'll have to find your way out if you want to survive this lost research facility buried under the snow and cut off from the outside world.

Once you’ve defrosted from the frozen tundra, then you’ll have to make your way over to the next house which is Captain’s Revenge - Drowned in Darkness

Here, you’ll encounter the cursed crew that has been driven mad by the forbidden treasure. They are doomed to face the fury of the sea whose darkness will do everything it can to make sure you don’t make it back to shore.

If you are able to escape the grasp of the sea, you’ll have to head over to the next house which is Dead Vines - Root of all Evil

Dead Vines - Root of all Evil has been revamped for 2022. In this house, you won’t walk through just any regular garden. You’ll actually be walking right into a terrifying realm of ravenous plants and hidden terrors where you’ll constantly think you’ll see something lurking in the darkness of the jungle. Keep an eye out for the mistress of ivy and evil as she’s poisoned these woods in an all-consuming appetite for visitors like you.

Once you escape the entrapment of the deadly vines, you’ll have to make it our last house which is a new one this year - Blood Beckoning

In Blood Beckoning beauty comes at a price as you’ll walk through the depths that are seeping with evil. This house is an underworld for the abandoned and forgotten who dwell in the shadows. The siren of this house is Scratch, and she’ll be waiting for you to feed you to her disciples… so make sure to stay sharp while you’re in here.

In addition to all of these houses, there are also 7 scare zones!

I'll go through the scare zones and the stories behind each of them to give you some insight into each one as well.

Starting back near the entrance, the first scare zone that you'll come across as you enter the park is Sea of Fear which is a new scare zone this year. In this zone, the sirens are in their gathering place which is a portal to all the terrors you’ve only heard of. While you’re here, you’ll want to stay on your toes because they’ll be lurking in the darkness waiting to draw you into the depths of the fold.

After you pass through the Sea of Fear, you’ll enter into Frozen Terror - Alive in the Ice

Here, you’ll want to make sure you keep far away from this entombed research facility that is swarming with subhuman walkers that will terrorize you with pickaxes and shovels! So, stay away or you may not be able to leave.

After Frozen Terror is Deadly Ambush

In Deadly Ambush, you’ll step back into 1961 where you’ve wandered into a campground where a new nightmare has as started and creatures are emerging from the darkness. Be careful while you’re walking through because there is nowhere to hide while you’re here.

If you make it through the deadly ambush, then you’ll head into the Witchcraft Bayou

In this area, a cult is currently growing and the lure is powerful as you pass through this backwater bayou. Be careful of the zealous worshippers before they take you down with their spells because they won’t rest until your soul belongs to them.

Once you escape from the Bayou, you’ll head into Terrors of the Deep

Terrors of the Deep is a new scare zone for 2022. In this area, you’ll discover an ancient lost city with a foreboding presence. Things will be moving all around you, and you’ll see long captive creatures that will have finally escaped their watery prison.

If you make it out of Terrors of the Deep, you’ll walk into Cargo Carnage

In Cargo Carnage come across your no-so-ordinary shipping delay. Here, you’ll find a sinister presence that is lurking in and throughout these crates that are ready to capture you at any moment. These creatures are out for blood, so do your best to make it out unscathed.

The very last scare zone that you’ll come across as you make your way around the park is Cut Throat Cove

In Cut Throat Cove, you'll come across a horrific shipwreck where pirates are now doomed to wander restlessly. They’ll never stop seeking revenge on those who’ve escaped their ghostly fate, so make sure to steer clear… or you may end up one of them.

Once you’ve finished exploring all of the monstrous scare zones, you’ll have to take in one of the 4 shows that are available during this year’s event.

The first one is Lurking in the Depths: An Adventurer’s Take where you’ll spend time with a brave explorer as he tells you stories of the adventures he's had as he hunts down a famed siren and you never know where his adventures may lead.

While you’re in the area, and you want something a bit more intimate, you’ll find a brand new show in the Lost Souls Hideaway which is a new bar for 2022. We didn’t have a chance to check out this bar while we were there, but there is a $10 cover if you want to go in.

One of my favorite shows of the evening was the Monster Stomp - which is returning from last year. This dark and entertaining show stars Jack the Ripper as he makes his way through Victorian-era London. Throughout the show, you’ll get to enjoy modern rock and electrifying percussion, dancing, and singing all combined in an exhilarating showcase.

The other show is Siren’s Song which is another show that is returning this year. During this outside show, you’ll get to come face to face with the sirens as they carry out their carnage. This show is filled with special effects, hypnotic dancing, and spine-chilling savagery.

If you get hungry or need a drink throughout the night - there are 5 themed bar experiences during this years’ Howl-o-Scream.

Allura’s on the Rocks is located in Sharks. The Longshoremen Tavern that is located over by Seafire Grill. Tormented which is over by Altitude burger. The Poison Grotto is right next to the Waterway Grill.

In addition to the bars, there are also several specialty food booths that are located throughout the event. I even heard there was one serving up crickets!

During the night if you want to take a break from all of the Halloween festivities, there are a few rides that will stay open during Howl-o-Scream: Manta, Infinity falls, Mako, and the Ice Breaker.

If you want a souvenir of the night there are also a number of shops where you can pick up everything you want from t-shirts, cups, and other fun Halloween home decor.

If you want the ultimate souvenir, then you’ll have to head over to the Siren Encounter which is an opportunity to take your photo with a live siren to prove to your friends at home.

If you are planning on heading to Howl-O-Scream this year, here are a few things to keep in mind

  • Howl-O-Scream has a strict no-bag policy, so you are not able to bring them in no matter how small. If you have a day ticket to SeaWorld for the same day, you are able to keep your bag with you while at Howl-O-Scream. They just do not allow them through the Howl-O-Scream gates once the event starts

  • The lines for Howl-O-Scream during opening night stayed at around 15-20 minutes max, so the wait times are much lower than what you would experience at bigger events like Halloween Horror Nights. If you want to make sure you have little to no wait while you're there, you can always purchase a front-of-line pass that will give you front-of-line access throughout your night.

  • The event happens rain or shine and there is no cancellation for a storm. So, if you want to stay dry, you'll want to make sure you bring a poncho or umbrella with you throughout the night.

If you’re looking for even more Halloween events in Orlando, you’ll want to check out my blog covering this year's Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando. It is the 31st Halloween Horror Nights event, and it is awesome this year. If you’re planning on going, I’ll go over the entire enough to help you plan your night. Until next time everyone, I hope you have an amazing evening and I’ll see you in the fog.
